Richard James McMichael Jr., was born on February 12, 1956 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Dick (Richard) and Doris (Tramper) McMichael. Rick grew up in Grand Rapids and attended Forest Hills Northern. In 1981, Rick enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Norforx, VA on the USS Nimitz where he served our country for 6 years. Rick returned to Grand Rapids and found a job working for the United States Post Office as a mechanic where after 30 years of service, he recently retired. Rick was excited to spend his retirement working on and racing his 1967 Cutlass. He helped found 2 car clubs in the area, Road Rodz Classic Car Club and Southside Car club. Cars and motorcycles were a true passion; he lived, worked, and breathed cars, it was in his blood. Rick passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Doris (Tramper) McMichael and Step Father, Dale Wilson. He is survived by his siblings: Cindy (Bruce) Hoppe of Rockford, MI, and Scott McMichael of Grand Rapids, MI, his niece: Michelle (Jon) Schiefen of Caledonia, MI, his nephew: Justin (Julie) Hoppe of Northview, MI, numerous great nephews and step siblings as well as his extended family the Road Rodz Classic Car Club. A celebration of life is being planned for this upcoming spring.
