Richard Eugene Larsen, 86, of Walker, Michigan passed away on Monday, January 14th, 2019. Our family has lost its hero. He was everyone's champion. Whatever trials you encountered, he unfailingly stepped up to provide comfort, action and support. Our family will never be the same in his absence. Richard was one of 9 children and as a child of 10-years-old, he hitchhiked from Grand Rapids to his grandparents farm in Mesick. What a different world he knew as a child! Richard was immensely proud to have served his country and Veteran's day was sacred to him for all of his fellow veterans. Richard began working at National Metal Products at Taylor & Frank Streets after his naval service. Over the many years he was there, he came to own the business. Among the countless jobs he was tasked with, the very parts he made went into the rockets that took us to the moon. That was the proudest moment of his life. Richard lost his beloved wife, Catherine (Buckley) Larsen 10 years ago. They had been married for 50 years. He then went to live with his daughter. Richard is survived by his sister, Marsha Lehman of Jenison and his brother, David (Mary Ellen) Larsen of North Carolina and Grand Rapids. In addition, Richard is survived by his daughter Candice Larsen of Walker, his grandchildren, Shealand (Tracey Andrews) Larsen of Perry, MI, Vanessa (Josh) Ocampo of Wyoming, MI and Natasha Homrich of Walker, Michigan. He also had 6 great-grandchildren: Kandys Larsen, Alexandra Fox, Tyler Scott, Aidan and Etan Ocampo and Lily Larsen. A Celebration of Life will be held at Post 208 located at 133 44th St. in Grand Rapids on February 9 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
