IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Alan Van
Ek
April 22, 1947 – August 20, 2022
Richard VanEk passed away on 08/20/2022, at his home, that he built, surrounded by his
wife Debbie, daughters, Angel and Amy Jo, and brother in law, Frank. Rick was born on
04/22/1947 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His parents were Joe VanEk (deceased 05/09/2013), and
Evelyn VanEk (deceased 11/29/2019).
Rick lived in Michigan, his entire life. He and his wife Debbie, were married for 53
years. He spent most of his life doing things that he enjoyed dearly. Rick worked as a
contractor, building many custom homes. As well as, later on in his career, designing and
remodeling homes. Rick also very much enjoyed fishing and reading, in his down times. If he
wasn't working, you would either catch him out on his boat, or getting comfortable on the couch
with a good book, and his cat curled up between his legs.
Rick had nothing but love in his heart. The last few months of his life, he became very
expressive, and shared the love. There wouldn't go a day, where he wouldn't tell his wife,
daughters, grandchildren (Gabby, Robbie, Zach, and Angela), that he loved them, and were so
proud of them.
Rick touched the hearts of many, and left an impact on every single person he had ever
met. He was a wise, strong, hard working individual, in everything he did. He was a fighter, and
never gave up, and was so determined. We will forever hold our most cherishable memories
close to our hearts forever, and know that Rick is watching down on all of us, with a smile on his
face.
