It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother, Richard Edward Derby Jr, who tragically passed in a car accident on August 9th, 2024. He was 64 years old.

Rich is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laurie, and his four children, Meghan (Chris), Caitlin (Scottie), Shane, and Connor (Hanna); his grandchildren, Marleigh, Olive, Joseph and Finn; his sister Jody Stadt (Don); sister-in-law, Susan Moore, and brother-in-law Jon Hyink (Chris), and his 9 nieces and nephews.

Rich was a man known for his gregarious nature and infectious smile. He had a gift for making everyone around him laugh, often turning the simplest moments into cherished memories with his quick wit and joyful spirit. His laughter was a constant presence, filling the room with warmth and light, and his kindness knew no bounds.

He lived his life guided by his faith, always striving to love and serve others as Jesus taught. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, shaping him into a man of unwavering integrity, compassion, and generosity.

Rich was a devoted husband and a dedicated father. His love for his family extended to his four grandchildren who brought him immense joy and whom he adored deeply.

While he has left us far too soon, his legacy of love, humor, generosity, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His presence was large, known, and precious to the many who were privileged with the gift of knowing him.

A celebration of Rich's life will be held at Boulder Creek Golf Club (5750 Brewer Ave NE, Belmont, MI 49306) on Friday, October 18th at 4:00 pm. Dinner to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mel Trotter Ministries (https://donor.meltrotter.org/), reflecting Rich's commitment to helping others and his deep faith in God's love.
