July 8, 1948 – August 9, 2021
Richard David Crooks of Byron Center, Michigan, passed away at age 73 on August 9, 2021 with his wife by his side. He was born to William Eckman and Mary Theresa (Holland) Crooks on July 8, 1948 in Youngstown, Ohio. Richard was born the second of three children. He was married to Jacqueline Anne (Millwood) Crooks on August 3, 1998.
Richard was a graduate of Youngstown University earning a degree in Business. While attending the University, Richard played on the golf squad. The squad posted a 14-5 season record. He loved playing golf as much as he could. He then served in the Marine Corp. from 2/23/1969 through 2/23/1973. Richard also played on the Marine Corps golf team. While serving he received commendations for the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Richard loved life, his friends and family. He also loved to explore different venues and places. He was very much interested in history of any kind, and he loved to read.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jackie of 24 years. Two loving children, David Crooks (Megan Varney) of Key West FL, Robert (Amy) Crooks and his beloved grandson Aiden Crooks, Scituate MA, his aunt Donna Henry of Tampa FL, brother William (Madlynne) Crooks of Greenwood, IN, sister Mary Lynne (James) Bada of Tampa FL, sister and brother in law Charyl and Ronald Vlasblom of Byron Center MI, niece AnnMarie (Kris) Griffith of Greenwood IN, niece Rebecca (James) Lee of Greenwood IN, nephew William (Margie) Crooks of Muncie IN, niece Jennifer Bada of Tampa Fl, niece Roslyn (Chandler) Raspon, of Tampa FL, niece Jaime (Ben) Zygmunt of Tampa, FL. He has several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Addington Place of Grand Rapids and a special thanks to Kindred Hospice for their care and compassion during his illness.
At Richards request, there will be no service at this time. There may be a Celebration of Life held in Florida in the future.
