Dr. Richard James Bates, born October 15, 1937, returned to The Lord on May 11, 2016. Dick Bates served as a faithful minister and chaplain for over 50 years. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris (Stitt) Bates, his daughter Ruth (German) Moran, son James (Margarita), son Jonathan (Jill), daughter Darlene (Philip) Camis, son Nathan (Kristin), his grandchildren Jessica, Julie, Jackie, Megan, Bethany, Calvin, Philip, Chelsea, Kaylee, Jack, Madison, Miles, and great-grandchildren Cole, Barrett, Anna, Henry, Hazel, and Blake. A funeral service will be held at Third Reformed Church, 2060 Michigan Street NE, Grand Rapids, MI on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 4:00 PM with refreshments following..
