Rennae Willis, affectionately known as “Red,” “Red Face,” and lovingly called “Peanut Head” by her daughter, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the age of 63.

Born on February 10, 1963, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Rennae was the daughter of David Willis Sr. and Maxine (Morris) Willis. A lifelong Kalamazoo resident, she attended Loy Norrix High School and devoted her life to her family, taking great pride in making sure the people she loved were cared for, supported, and never went without. 

Rennae worked hard and always did whatever was necessary to make sure her family was well cared for, no matter the cost. She made sure her two children, Takia Willis-Bowie and Derrick Willis-Bowie, never went without. Her love was shown not only through her words, but through the many sacrifices she made for her family throughout her life.

Rennae had a sweet and kind heart, but she was also never afraid to speak her mind. She told it like it was and did not always worry about the  consequences, a quality her family knew and loved about her. She was unapologetically herself and will be remembered for her honesty, strength, and love for those closest to her. 

One of Rennae’s greatest joys was being a grandmother. She adored her grandsons, Carmelo and Cassius Gray, who were affectionately known as “Nana’s babies.” Being a grandmother brought her so much joy, and the love she shared with them will forever be cherished by her family.

Rennae also enjoyed the simple things that brought her happiness. She loved drinking her favorite Pepsi, eating her beloved Turtles candy, and watching horror films, which were without a doubt her absolute favorite. These little pieces of who she was are among the memories her family will hold onto most.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Takia Willis-Bowie of Kalamazoo; her son, Derrick Willis-Bowie of Kalamazoo; her grandsons, Carmelo and Cassius Gray, “Nana’s babies”; her sister, Karest Willis Brown of Kalamazoo; her brother, David Willis Jr. of Kalamazoo; her special friend, Vicki Cornish; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Willis Sr. and Maxine (Morris) Willis; her sister, Odessa Davis; and her nephew, Amos Walker.

Rennae will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Her memory will live on through her children, her grandchildren, her family, and the many lives she touched. The sacrifices she made, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave will remain a part of her family forever.
