IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ray James
Depree
March 18, 1952 – July 23, 2022
Jim "JD" (Ray) DePree, age 70 of Wyoming, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at SKLD in Wyoming. He was born on March 18, 1952, in Grand Rapids, to the late Ray and Margaret (Bont) DePree. JD was a graduate of Lee High School. In 1970 he wed Marcia Lutke and, over the course of their fifty-two-year marriage, raised their sons and watched their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. JD wore several hats in his life including husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, coach, wrestling official, boss, and patriarch of the family. He was a man of great integrity and character. JD enjoyed peace and quiet while hunting, fishing and two tracking with his dog. He was a huge football fan and rooted for the Lions, Tigers, and the University of Michigan. JD absolutely loved his children and grandchildren. He spent his life teaching them how to hunt, fish, and participate in sports. JD cared about the safety of children and was known for building the safety standards for kids who wrestled. He was very involved with youth sports and spent a lot of time volunteering as a sports official. He was a pre-Olympic referee for FILA and traveled with the US Olympic team to Bulgaria. JD could be a man of few words, but when he spoke, he could stop the room and everybody would listen. JD will be deeply missed by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Marcia (Lutke) DePree; three sons: 1SG James (Elena) DePree, US Army, Jess (Sue) DePree, and Shawn (Dana) DePree; seven grandchildren: Tyler, Austin, Josh, Walker, Simone, Sajen, and Jesse; four great-grandchildren, with another on the way; sister, Joanne Laszlo of California; as well as many other family and friends. JD was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Dale; sister, Donna Maleski; nephew, Richard Maleski; grandson, Zachary Sutton; and in-laws, Jay and Ruth Lutke. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Promedica Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they provided through the years. A celebration of JD's life will be held at a later date. Per his wishes, donations can be made to the University of Michigan Neurology Clinic at Taubman Center, 1500 E. Medical Center Drive, Floor 1, Reception C, Ann Arbor, MI, 48109.
