IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ralph Eugene
Johnson
November 1, 1931 – May 12, 2022
Ralph Eugene Johnson born November 1, 1931, Stub to all who knew and loved him. Stub went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Wings of Hope Hospice Home in Allegan, Michigan. He passed away from natural causes at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Anna Faye, to whom he was married to for nearly 69 years. Also proceeded by his granddaughter Corinne Smith, brother Robert (Helen) Johnson and sister Anna Mae (Duane) Woolner.
Surviving Stub are his children Peggy Gaines (Everett), David Johnson (Shelly) and Laurel Smith (Thomas). He is also survived by his grand-children Andrew Gaines, Nicholas Gaines (Amanda), Jeremy Johnson (Emily), Amber Thompson (Matthew), Trevor Smith (Erin) and Mackenzie Marble. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Stub was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He never spanked or belittled his children. He taught his children to be respectful, good morals, to be honest and hard-working individuals. He always threatened to give "the business", but no one ever got it, but we were always afraid we might, some came pretty close. His family meant everything to him, and he meant everything to them. He wasn't one to hug, kiss or talk about his feelings, but all knew how much he loved them. Stub never hesitated to help a family member, friend or neighbor if they needed it.
Stub worked for the Compton family for over 50 years, he ran the drag-line crane and other heavy equipment. He loved to take the family for Sunday drives and show them what job he was working and jobs he had completed. He still enjoyed driving around, telling stories and showing jobs he had done, including the day he went into Hospice. He was a genius at running the drag-line crane and dug numerous ponds, seven of which were in his own country block. His own pond "Little Faye Lake" was the best. Many family reunions, camp outs, church picnics and even a few weddings at it.
His favorite place to spend time was outside, in the woods, picking what tree to cut down next, mowing his lawn, riding his golf cart to make sure the family compound was safe, or just sitting in the sun. Stub was the King of Johnsonville, when he spoke, everyone listened. He loved nature and that is where he felt the closest to God, for many years that was his church. After he retired, he started taking Anna Faye to church and became the official bell ringer. He loved the old-time country/gospel music. His favorite week of church was country week. Stub really loved Allen Jackson singing hymns.
Something that most people did not know about him was that he was very refined. He loved Shakespeare and poetry. Stub liked to memorize quotes, poems and Bible Scripture and recite them to his family. He had a wonderful memory and quoted a poem the day before he died. One of Stub's favorite quotes was from Shakespeare's Hamlet: "Thou know'st tis common; all that lives must die".
The family is thankful for all the prayers that went up for him in the last few years and though he will be greatly missed we know that his suffering is finally over and that he is alive and healthy. He is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus, his beloved Anna Faye, and his family and friends that preceded him.
