Obituary

Philip Wayne Schick, 83, of Battle Creek, passed away at home on Friday, March 28, 2025, following an extended illness. Phil was born November 14, 1941, the son of Clyde V. Schick and Jessie Josephine (Kendall) Schick, on the family farm in Fredonia Twp, Marshall, Michigan.

Phil graduated from Marshall High School in 1957, served in the US Marine Corps as an air traffic controller, worked for Eaton Mfg. in Marshall, then joined the US Navy as an air traffic controller in Viet Nam.

Taking an early retirement from directing air traffic at Kalamazoo, Michigan and South Bend, Indiana, Phil moved to Rifle, Colorado and established an advertising business and a side-line of novelty wood working.

Returning to Michigan, Phil worked as an advertising writer for local agencies while further developing Wood Stack novelties.

In 1986, Phil met and married Candace Sells. Together they enjoyed 39 years of partnership in the Wood Stack business and raising their son, Jacob.

Phil is survived by wife Candace, son Jacob, sisters Jeanette Groth and Lois Munn, sisters-in laws Cindy Kettle and Kimberly Sanborn.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Josephine Schick, sisters Betty Katz, Shirley Schick, and JoAnn Stiner.

No funeral or visitation is planned at this time.

Arrangements are by Ofield Funeral Home. Interment in Fort Custer National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
