Peter Ferwerda, age 89, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022. Remembering him with love are his children; Linda Wilcox, Mary Ferwerda (Bob Jordan), Bonnie (Duane) Wiest and Ric (Kathy) Ferwerda; his grandchildren Maria Wiest, Laura (Craig) Kapuscinski, Toni Ferwerda; his great grandchildren Alivia, Amaya, Jakson, Kessidy, Kaius, Koen; his great-great grandson Lamore. He was preceded in death by his former wife Doris Ferwerda, sisters Dorothy Stoepker, Carol Groenink, Agnes Peterman, and his granddaughter Melissa Ferwerda. Peter graduated from Central High School in Grand Rapids, served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War as a lighthouse keeper on Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, was an active member of the East Fulton Business Association and retired from Ferwerda's Sales & Rentals where he mentored many employees over the years. He was a timer for Golden Gloves for over 27 years and a life-long member of the American Legion Furniture City Post 258. He enjoyed the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk and spending time with family and helping others. The family wishes to thank A+ Family Medicine and The Oaks at Belmont for their dedicated care. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service and interment will be at Rosedale Memorial Park in the spring. Service Details.
