IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Penny Letha
Urbanski
October 1, 1958 – December 27, 2021
Penny Letha Urbanski (Walters), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, aunt, and friend, of Grand Rapids, MI, was born on October 1, 1958, and peacefully transitioned from her earthly life on December 27, 2021, after a long illness, surrounded by family, Christmas music, and jokes.
Penny was a fierce advocate for the underdog and a loyal and caring friend, maintaining several lifelong friendships. She loved to make jokes and bake Christmas cookies for her family and many friends. She especially loved taking care of others, particularly babies and older people, and she cherished her time working as a resident assistant at Porter Hills Village. She was an avid reader and championed literacy for everyone, volunteering her time at the Literacy Center of West Michigan. Above all, she loved being a mother and grandmother, and her children will deeply miss her regular phone calls, cards for every occasion, silly sense of humor, and sage advice.
She was preceded in death and looking forward to reuniting and dancing in Heaven with her mother, Marylane Scott, grandmother, Nonnie Scott, first husband, David Guerra, baby, Joshua Guerra, best friend, Joan Tompkins, cherished dog, Cicero, and many other treasured family and friends. Penny is survived, missed, and forever loved by her caring husband of 34 years, Donald Urbanski, her children, Megan Urbanski, Molly Boughton (Scott), and Emma Urbanski, her grandchildren, Porter and Jane Boughton, her sisters and brothers, Amy Stevens (John), Scott Walters (Connie), Tim Walters (Lisa), Pamela Martin (Chuck), Nick Kremer (Laura), and Gailann Karpinski (Tom), many nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Penny's life will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church (Two Churches) when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Kentwood or the Literacy Center of West Michigan are appreciated. May she go from strength to strength, glory to glory.
