Obituary

Penny Anne (Traynor) Shipley – Cedar Springs, MI

Penny A. Shipley of Newaygo, MI, passed away July 3, 2026, at Intersect Health Care of Cedar Springs following a severe stroke. She had just marked her 78th birthday.

Penny Anne Traynor was born June 29, 1948, in Flint, MI, to Oakley O. Traynor Sr. and Mary Kelly Traynor. She attended the Flint Public Schools and Pius X Catholic Church. Penny married Frank Shipley Jr. there in 1965. The couple was married 41 years at the time of his passing. She was predeceased by her parents and grandparents, husband, sons Frank Shipley II and Jason R. Shipley, and a brother Paul Traynor who passed on June 7, 2026.

Mrs. Shipley is survived by her daughter, Kelly Fields, grandsons Erik and Jordan Fields, two great-grandchildren, sister Patricia (Kirk) Salvati, with whom she made her home, brothers Oakley (Cathy) Traynor, Carl (Julie) Traynor, and Thomas (Roseann) Traynor, many nieces and nephews and her Kelly and Smith cousins.

Penny worked with her husband in his motor rewind business for many years and sold real estate for a time. In her younger years she was a talented and excellent seamstress, making clothing for her children, herself, and even ties and sport jackets for her husband. She made countless stuffed animals and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, to every child’s delight.

Her family will remember Penny especially for her love of animals, television viewing, snacks she shouldn’t have, and her infectious laugh.

Her family will celebrate her life at a family gathering in July. There will be a memorial celebration for friends and family at the Lake George Booster’s Club, 89 S. Bringold Ave, Lake George, MI on August 22, 2026, 1-4 pm. The family urges those who remember Penny to share those memories with them in Lake George.

Penny will be laid to rest with her parents, Oak and Mary Traynor, at the Lincoln Twp. Cemetery at Lake George, MI.
