IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia W
Wooley
January 11, 1951 – October 9, 2022
Patricia (Pat) Washington-Wooley was born on January 11th, 1951 in Chicago Heights Illinois to the union of Selina and Holbert Washington. Pat accepted Christ at the early age of twelve and was baptized. She was a member of the St James CME church of Chicago Heights.
She attended Lincoln Grade School and Washington Junior High School in Chicago Heights where her interests in art and music began to flourish.
While in junior high, in the 6th grade, Pat was a very skilled artist at an early age. She entered an art contest and won first place where the prize was to attend drawing classes at the Art Institute of Chicago for the summer. To this very day, she has a 1st Place State Drawing hanging in the Principle's office at Washington Junior High drawn while in the 8th grade. Always interested in classical music, she entered the band program where she played the clarinet. She was often known for winning 1st place ribbons in both art and band.
In 1966, the family moved to Harvey, Illinois where she attended Thornton Township High School and focused on a curriculum of Art and Education. She played clarinet in the concert band. Pat wanted to become a teacher and graduated from high school in 3 years.
Pat attended Chicago State University with sights on becoming an Art Teacher. While there, for one of her projects, she held an art exhibit becoming the first to hold a one woman show. While in attendance, Pat created many works that ranged from drawing, painting, sculpting and even advertising. She once created an ad for a 'Hoagie Sandwich Shop'. She was the first in her family to graduate college earning a Bachelor's Degree in Art education.
Pat began her teaching career as a substitute teacher and soon landed a position with District 152 in Harvey.
Pat was destined to meet the love of her life, Ozella Wooley Jr, while picking up her sister Marie, who was visiting Renee, Ozella's sister. Pat and Ozella were married on November 9th, 1974.
Pat continued teaching even after moving to Michigan in 1984 where she nurtured a multitude of students in art. She always had the most outstanding projects for them to work on. Many times during her recreational outings, she would run into her students, past and present and would often hear, "Hi Mrs. Wooley!". She was quite the local rock star. She had a remarkable sense of humor but you knew she meant business whenever she took off her glasses and gave a stern look.
During her tenure as teacher in the Forest Hills Public School district, Pat earned a Master's Degree from Western Michigan University.
Pat retired in 2018 and spent her days drawing, painting, baking, taking walks and doing some photography and light travel with her husband. In addition to her love of Art and Music, Pat's interests included genealogy where she would often share what she learned about the family history. One of her later creations was a lacquered box that she designed with an assemblage of family heritage emblems on top.
On October 9th, 2022, she departed this world to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents: Holbert and Selina Washington; two siblings: Holbert Clarence Washington and Latonia Charise (Charles) Jackson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 48 years: Ozella; daughter: Annette Marie (Dan) Burhans, son: Ozella Patrick (Kelsey) Wooley, grandson: Ozzy, sisters: Barbara, Selina Marie and Marilyn Yvette Washington of Illinois along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Family would like to thank the Faith Hospice for their care and compassion during Pat's illness.
