IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Ann
Idema
October 13, 1942 – September 14, 2024
Patricia Ann Bishop, known affectionately to all as Pat, took her final bow on September 14, 2024, in her beloved hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan, where her story began on October 13, 1942. She exited the stage of life as she lived it, with grace and natural ease, surrounded by the city and the people she cherished.
Pat was the spirited daughter of Clarence and Anna, who predeceased her, as did her brother Donald and the sister she never had the chance to meet, Judith. Her legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Walter, her loving sons, Dan and Tim, and her daughter-in-law, Jerrie, who was like a daughter to her. She also leaves behind her steadfast brother, David, and his wife Judy, and her sister Ann, all of whom were integral parts of her ensemble cast in life.
A proud graduate of the local high school, Pat's career was as varied and vibrant as her personality. She spent years with Old Kent Bank, where her laughter filled the halls, and with Dr. Pattel's office, where her humor was often the best medicine. But her most cherished role was that of wife and mother, a part she played with unmatched passion and dedication.
Pat's interests were as unique as her sense of humor. She was a maestro of the accordion, often performing duets with her father, who played the "Saw." Together, they were a sight to behold and a melody to the ears. Not one to rest on her musical laurels, Pat took up ventriloquism, proving that she could throw her voice as skillfully as she could a punchline. She brought laughter and light to churches, nursing homes, and retirement communities, entertaining with her wit while sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
Funny, thoughtful, and passionate—these words best describe Pat. She could find the humor in any situation and often did. Her laughter was infectious, her jokes were legendary, and her ability to make others feel loved was her greatest trick of all.
Pat's life was a masterclass in joy. She never missed an opportunity to make those around her smile, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her final act may have come to a close, but the memories she created, much like her jokes, will never grow old.
As the curtain falls on Patricia Ann Bishop's remarkable life, we take comfort in knowing that her encore will be just as spectacular as the life she lived. Her spirit, like her humor, is indomitable and will continue to echo in the hearts of those she touched. So, let's not say goodbye to Pat; let's just say, "See you in the next act," and keep her laughter alive within us.
And so, with a standing ovation, we celebrate the life of Patricia Ann Bishop—a woman who never failed to leave them laughing.
A visitation and celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, October 2nd from 1-3pm at Crosspoint Baptist Church, 60 Port Sheldon St. Grandville, MI 49418. There will be a luncheon to follow.
