IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norbert Peter
Tesmer
July 29, 1934 – February 20, 2024
Norbert ("Norb") Peter Tesmer, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, formerly from
Cleveland, Ohio, entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at
home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Claudia Ann
(Barnhard) Tesmer of 66 years.
Norb was born on July 29, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Leo and Irene
(Szymanski) Tesmer. He met his beloved Claudia, his "goofy girl," at the young
age of 22, and the two were married shortly after. Despite his professional
success and innumerable personal strengths, Norb considered his loving marriage
to Claudia and the three daughters they shared his greatest accomplishment.
Norb was the MacGyver of his generation, with an uncanny ability to solve any
matter and fix any issue. After racing cars in his youth, he entered the United
States Army, where he honed a knack for electronics. After a tour in the Army,
Norb landed a customer engineering job working on early computers at IBM, a
role that, even at that time, typically required specialized training or education
but was offered to Norb for his exceptional aptitude and potential. Norb rose
through the ranks of IBM management, and, like his favorite Cleveland Browns
player, Jim Brown, later retired from his profession at the top of his game.
Among Norb's numerous interests, he enjoyed building model airplanes, fishing,
restoring cars and boats, fixing anything he could get his hands on, watching
Cleveland baseball, crafting heirlooms for his cherished daughters and
grandchildren, and, perhaps most of all, traveling the world with the love of his
life and very best friend Claudia. Besides the devoted husband and life partner of
Claudia (deceased), Norb was the brother to Grace (deceased); father to Deborah
(Doug) Kampe, Roberta Bosch, and Cynthia (Paul) Upchurch; Papa to Brittany
(Nick) Haanan, Max Nanzig, Abigael Bosch, Mac Bosch, Stephanie Upchurch, and
Eric Upchurch; and great-grandfather to Andrea Haanan.
Norb was a reliable, honest, and generous man, and he will be forever loved,
missed, and remembered by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be
scheduled for a later date.
