Obituary

Norald D. “Bim” Holt, age 97, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026 with a smile on his face.

He was born at Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, Michigan and spent his childhood living in Coopersville. He attended Catholic Central High School, where he met the love of his life, Alah Denhof. From 1947 to 1950, he proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Fargo (CL-106), spending time in Europe. Following his military service, he was united in marriage to Alah on July 8, 1950, starting a lifetime of love and memories that spanned 61 years until her passing. He graduated from Davenport College and worked for many years at Old Kent Bank as an accounting supervisor. In 1965, he started All Purpose Draperies and later founded his own accounting firm, Accounting Consultants, which he operated until his retirement. While residing in East Grand Rapids, he was an active member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. He later built a home in Cobmoosa Shores, Shelby, where many cherished summers were spent enjoying time with his children and grandchildren as well as golf outings and gatherings with extended family and friends. After Alah's passing, he moved to Rockford to be closer to his children and lived independently until January of this year.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alah; daughter, Lori Eldersveld of Kalamazoo; special friend and companion, Doris “Dee” Hallberg Wells of Georgia; his parents, Rex and Hazel of East Grand Rapids; brothers, John of Grand Rapids and Robert of Wheeling, Illinois; and sister, Shirley Tebeau Key of Cascade.

He is survived by his children, Linda (Rich) Sadowski of Rockford; Brian (Lisa) of Grand Rapids; and Bradford (Chris T Searer Holt) of Cedar Springs. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: David Sadowski of Dana Point, California; Andrea (Eric) Beckett of Rockford; Jenelle (Rob) Warner of College Grove, Tennessee; David (Angela) Eldersveld Jr. of Pinckney; Michael Eldersveld (Joe Linke) of Chicago, Illinois; Rachel Eldersveld (Dan Kramer) of Grand Rapids; Olivia Holt of Grand Rapids; and Ben Holt of Grand Rapids.

He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren: Peyton and Kaden Beckett; Tristan and Colton Warner; Martha, Helena, Cecilia, Xavier, Isaac, and Samuel Eldersveld; and Loralai and Franklin Kramer. He is further survived by brothers-in-law Louis Denhof of Holland, Michigan, and Gerry (Char) Denhof of Celebration, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

His quick wit and infectious laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service for Norald will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, at St Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St. NE. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 10:00 a.m. for a time of visitation. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place, with interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Lean on Me Outreach Center in Rockford, Make-A-Wish Michigan, or Emmanuel Hospice, whose compassionate care blessed his final month.
