IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Newman William
Dawe
July 21, 1925 – January 20, 2018
Newman William "Newt" Dawe, age 92, passed peacefully on January 20, 2018, in Grand Rapids, Mi. He was born on July 21, 1925 in Dearborn, Michigan and preceded in death by his parents Clarence Buckingham Dawe and Edna Carolyn (Riecks) Dawe. Newt is a Veteran of WWII and the Korean War in which he served as a 1st Lieutenant, Navigator in the Army Air Corp (Air Force). Newt was an Engineer, working in the field of Air Conditioning and Heating. However, at heart, Newt was an outdoorsman. He had many weekend adventures hunting, fishing, and doing archery with his sons, friends, and family. This passion of his led him to becoming a member of the Conservation Club where he enjoyed trapshooting, skeet shooting, and sporting clays. His humor was contagious and his story telling, the life of the party. He will be remembered for the numerous things he taught his children with love, like driving on icy roads. Newt entertained family and friends with his card and magic tricks at parties and was counted on for capturing memories in photographs. His jovial laugh captured our hearts forever. The retired years were gentle moments of sitting on the front porch on warm summer days, with his "Juliet" watching their kitties play. Newt will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Shirley Swan Dawe and his younger brother, John Smedley Dawe. Newt and Shirley had no children together. He leaves behind his loving children, John Randall Dawe (Laura), Marsha Lindsay Rinker (Michael), Curtis James Dawe (Beverly) and their mother Margaret Lucille Dawe. Seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren are also deeply loved. He is also missed by Shirley's children, Cynthia Louise Alberts, Karen Lee Thauer (Edwin), Susan Michelle Groom (Jed), John Matthew Alberts (Jacoba) and Judith Ann Gonzalez. There is also 1 niece, 2 nephews and cousins. Per his request, cremation has taken place, and a Christian Memorial Service will be held on February 3rd, 2018 at Ofield Funeral Home on 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. Visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. and followed by the service at 11:00. The family would like to thank Spectrum Health Hospice for their loving care of Newman and also Westminster Presbyterian church Deacon's ministry.
