Nancy Elaine Jasiak, age 78, passed away peacefully at Bronson Hospital on October 12, 2016 with family by her side. Nancy was born August 14, 1938 to the late Howard and Louise Wood in Kalamazoo Michigan. She was an athlete at a time when women's sports were not popular. In her teens, she played shortstop for the Lassies, a pro-baseball team, in the junior division. She was an excellent bowler and met her husband John at the Bowl-a-Drome in 1957. They married in 1958 and had 4 children; Kevin, Kim, Christopher and Courtney. The Jasiak family spent many summers on the golf course and at the ball diamonds and this continued with watching her grandchildren. Nancy was an avid golfer and played in leagues for years at Eastern Hills, States Golf Course and Shalamar . Nancy retired from Kalamazoo District Court on 2002. Although she left so many wonderful friends in Kalamazoo, she and John were snowbirds starting in 2003 and in 2008 lived year round in Lakeland, Florida. One of her greatest joys was working for the Detroit Tigers during spring training. She loved the interaction with the baseball players and their families. She met a new wonderful set of friends who became her support system when John passed away in 2012. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren; Brytnie, Christopher, Evan and Aaron. Nancy and John always looked forward to family visiting. Game night became a tradition around Christmas time. They had many wild games of cards, spoons and charades where grandma would often get rowdy and use colorful language, much to the delight of her grandsons. Nancy will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She had a great sense of humor, wonderful smile, was a great friend and an absolute joy to be around. Anytime Nancy was around, there was bound to be great fun and plenty of laughter. Nancy is survived by her children, Kevin, Kim (Bob) Fooy, Courtney (Colette), grandchildren Brytnie, Christopher, Evan and Aaron, brother Mike Wood, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Christopher, daughter in law Tracey and sister Diane Berns. A very special thank you to Nancy's nurses at Bronson Hospital, especially Darin and Natalie, for taking such good care of Nancy in her final days. It was very apparent you truly cared about her and enjoyed her sense of humor. There will be a celebration of Nancy's life on Saturday, October 22nd from 1-4 at States Golf Course in Vicksburg, MI. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
