Obituary

Myron George "Mike" Stokes, age 84, of Walker, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 6, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents George Charles Stokes and Lulu Alice Poole Stokes, Mike was a beacon of kindness and generosity, whose sense of humor and love for life touched all who knew him.

Mike proudly served his country as a veteran of both the Navy and the Air Force, demonstrating a commitment to service that would define much of his life. Following his military career, he settled into civilian life and retired from Meijer as a respected data analyst, where his sharp mind and attention to detail were greatly valued by his colleagues and peers.

An alumnus of Michigan State, Mike earned his associate degree, which opened doors for him professionally and instilled in him a lifelong love of learning. He carried the principles of hard work and dedication from his education through every aspect of his life.

Family was the cornerstone of Mike's world. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, George and Lulu; his sister, Jennifer Ouendag; his brother, Jeffrey Stokes; and his cherished wife, Virginia Stokes. His legacy lives on through his daughter, Christine Stokes; his son, Scott Stokes; his granddaughters, Kacie Stokes and Jamie Melancon; and his four great-grandchildren, who will miss their grandfather's warmth and guidance. He is also survived by his siblings, Sarah Hallas and Dan Stokes, along with multiple nieces and nephews, all of whom will fondly remember his kindness and wit.

Mike's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an avid sports fan, with a particular enthusiasm for his hometown teams. His love for trivia was well-known among his friends and family, as he could often be found championing the weekly trivia night at Lincoln Pines Resort. Above all, Mike cherished spending time with his friends, whether it was sharing stories, enjoying a game, or simply basking in the camaraderie that comes from years of shared experiences.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Mike will recall a man who was not only funny and generous but also possessed an innate ability to make everyone around him feel special and valued. His laughter was infectious, his advice sound, and his presence a comfort to those in his company.

As we bid farewell to Myron "Mike" Stokes, we reflect on a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His spirit, characterized by an unwavering kindness and a jovial heart, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Mike's memory will be a guiding light for his family, a reminder to live with laughter, and to approach each day with a generous heart.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Mike's family will hold a private commemoration of his life, where they will share memories, celebrate his legacy, and honor the remarkable man he was. Mike's story is one of love, laughter, and a deep commitment to his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed, but his impact will endure in the lives of those he touched.

Rest in peace, Myron George "Mike" Stokes, and may your memory continue to bring joy and smiles to all who remember you.
