Obituary

Mildred Winnifred Komejan, affectionately known as Millie, passed away peacefully due to the graceful passage of age at 91 on December 15, 2023, in Wyoming, Michigan. Born on November 23, 1932, in South Portland, Maine, Millie's life was filled with love, kindness, and thoughtful gestures that touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.

Millie grew up in South Portland, Maine, where she graduated from South Portland High School. Millie was a kind and caring soul who loved to nurture others, especially with her excellent cooking, which led her to a long and fulfilling career in food services. Millie dedicated many years as the director of the cafeterias at Steelcase Corporation where she not only served meals but also smiles and support to countless employees over the years.

Family was the cornerstone of Millie's existence. Millie was a beloved mother (and best friend) to her daughter, Linda Komejan, and sons Jack Komejan, Dave Komejan, and Ron Komejan. She cherished her role as a mother-in-law to Jeff Dekker, Kelly Komejan, and Karen Komejan. Her surviving siblings, Clifton McKenney and Evelyn Reynolds, shared in the myriad of memories of a lifetime. Millie was preceded in death by her older sister Florence. Millie also enjoyed lifelong connection to many nieces and nephews.   Millie's former spouse, William Komejan, was a part of her life's journey, and together they raised a family that would expand to include her grandchildren, Anna Schulte, Heidi Skiffington Kylie Komejan, Zachary Komejan, and Benjamin Komejan, as well as her great-grandchildren, Adon Cannon, Alexander Schulte, Charlotte Skiffington, and Amelia Skiffington.

Beyond her family and career, Millie had a passion and talent for knitting. With each stitch, she crafted not just hats, mittens, and sweaters, but also warmth and care for those in need. Her handmade creations were donated by the hundreds to local family shelters, extending her generosity and compassion to those in her community most in need.

Millie's zest for life was evident in her enthusiasm for sports. Millie was an ardent booster for her children's sports endeavors. She extended that same spirited support to her favorite teams, including the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and the collegiate basketball and football teams at Michigan and Michigan State.

Millie's social circle was wide, with numerous friends at Rivertown Ridge where she resided in her later years. Millie was an active participant in the community, engaging in events and activities that enriched her days and those of her friends. Her presence was a source of joy and camaraderie, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of her company.

Millie lived her life as a testament to love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. These words not only describe her but serve as a legacy of the impact she made on the world. To have known Millie was to have known a life well-lived, a life that was a beacon of generosity and caring.
