Obituary

Michael "Mac" Kurt McCarthy, a spirited and adventurous soul, passed away on September 7, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mac was born on September 21, 1951, in the warm community of Holland, Michigan, and took his final breath in the comforting surroundings of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Throughout his 72 years, Mac's infectious enthusiasm for life and love for those around him left an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone he met.

Mac was a man who lived by the ethos of the School of Hard Knocks, embodying the virtues of resilience and self-reliance. He was a true jack of all trades, having spent his years mastering the roads as a truck driver and taming the skies as a tree trimmer. Mac was not only known for his work ethic but also for his involvement in various associations where he shared his skills and camaraderie with others.

In his personal life, Mac was a devoted family man, deeply cherished by his beloved wife, Linda Harvey, and their blended family. He was a loving father to Karen and Ricky, Linda's children. His daughters, Erin Hurley and Lauren McCarthy, inherited his strength and his tender heart. Mac was also a proud brother to Steven and Kevin McCarthy. His role as a grandfather to Sara, Arianna, Michael, Zoey, Brooklynn, and Jaylynn was one he held with great pride and joy, leaving them with countless memories of love and laughter. Preceded in death by his parents, Donna and Thomas McCarthy, Mac's legacy continues through the lives of his family, who will forever honor his memory.

Mac's zest for life was paralleled by his interests. A die-hard fan of The Rolling Stones, he found solace in their music and a kindred spirit in their timeless rebellion. His passion for riding motorcycles was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his love for freedom and the open road. These interests were not mere pastimes but a window into the soul of a man who lived each day to the fullest.

Those who knew Mac would describe him as adventurous, thoughtful, and loving. His sense of adventure was not just in his actions but in his approach to life, always ready to lend a hand or embark on a new journey.

As we bid farewell to Mac we remember his rambunctious antics and passion for life. "Life's too cool to not live it fully"-Mac
