Michael Robert Dory, 81, of Caledonia passed away on June 27, 2021 at Medilodge in Wyoming. Michael was born on May 9, 1940 in Munising to Robert (Belle LaCombe) Dory. He graduated from LaSalle High School in St. Ignace, and then worked several years on the Great Lakes as a deckhand, before attending Gogebic Community College. Michael graduated from the National School for Heavy Equipment in 1959 shortly before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps as an equipment operator. Michael did a five-year tour in Vietnam before being honorably discharged as an E-4 Corporal. He was very proud to be a Marine.
On September 4, 1992 he married Judith Austhof in Jackson and they spent 35 beautiful years together. Michael continued to work as a Heavy Equipment Operator until his retirement from the Operating Engineers Local 324 in 1998. In 2017, he received an award for being a 50-year member.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his son Keenan Dory and his father-in-law, Ernie Austhof. In addition to his wife, Judi. Michael is survived by his sister Patty (Al) Branham; mother-in-law, Gladys Austhof; sister-in-laws, Sandy (Mark) Rutherford, Jane (Doug) Hughes, Rhonda (Jerry) Pavlovic; and brother-in-law, David (Wendy) Austhof; his grandchildren Britnee (Dustin) Lewis, Graham Hendrie, Paige Hendrie, Kenydee Otto, Carter Otto, and Cooper Otto; and many dear friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A special thank you to the nurses and cardiologists at Spectrum Hospital 6 North and his friends of Medilodge for their care of Michael. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Cremation and funeral services are being handled by Ofield Funeral Home. A luncheon will be held on July 18, 2021 from 1-3 p.m., at Dorr American Legion Post #127, 4310 18th St. Dorr, Michigan 49323.
