Michael R. Dexter, 55, of Muskegon went to be with his Lord on June 8, 2016. He was born May 5th, 1961 to Mary and the late Charles Dexter in Muskegon. He graduated from Fruitport High School in 1979. He married Cindy VanderVelde on October 6, 1984 and they have three children. He worked for Herman Miller for 30 years, mainly in supervision. He attended Fellowship Church. Mike enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going fishing, and vacations with his family, especially Tennessee. Most importantly he loved watching his boys sporting events and to see them grow into fine young men. He was proud of his boys and loved them very much along with his wife. He was a family man, very loving, and had a generous heart. Mike is survived by his wife Cindy of 31 years, and his three boys; Kevin (Jenna) of Midland, Matthew of Jackson and Joe (Bari) of Muskegon. He also survived by his mother Mary Dexter, mother in law Margaret VanderVelde, two brothers Tony (Rebecca) and Roger (Nadine) and one sister Susan Bazany all from Muskegon. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, one in particular Lenny Town. He was preceded in death by his father Charles and Chuck Dexter. The family would like to thank Dr. K. Alquire and her staff at the Mercy Health Johnson Cancer Care for their compassionate and knowledgeable care. Also he was grateful for the staff of Dr. Harriman and staff at Harbor Hospice for their dedication to keep Mike comfortable in his last days. Instead of flowers the family requests donations to be made in Mike's name to Harbor Hospice, Mercy Health Johnson Cancer Center or to the Youth fund at Fellowship Church. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday June 14th at 7pm at Fellowship Church, 4200 E. Apple Avenue in Muskegon. Pastor Mike VanKampen will officiate the service. The family will be available to visit with family and friends one hour prior to the service. His remains will be buried at Sullivan Township Cemetery.
