Obituary

Michael Anthony Curatolo of Grand Rapids, Michigan, age 55, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 4, 2023, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family and passed peacefully at home. He was born to Anthony and Florence (Nennig) on March 2, 1968, in Largo, FL.  Mike was the youngest of 3 children and grew up near Indian Rocks Beach and enjoyed playing in the surrounding beach with his friends and family.  He was a Class of 1987 graduate of Largo High School and joined the United States Marine Corp thereafter.  Mike studied at the United States Armed Forces School of Music at Cherry Point North Carolina and graduated Class of 1988.  He played tuba, sousaphone, and bass guitar while in the Marine Corp Band.  Michael loved music and was an amazing musician. He also spent time in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Mike was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp in 1993.

The Lord blessed him with an amazing logical and analytical mind.  He was employed by Siemens Components in Franklin, Kentucky from 1996-2000 as lead automation technician.  He received his Journeyman Toolmaker Diploma in 1999 and studied automated industrial systems at Western Kentucky University Class of 2000.  Mike moved to Tecumseh, Michigan in 2001 and was employed by Pall Life Sciences in Ann Arbor until 2007. Michael attended Grace Point Evangelical Free Church in Adrian, Michigan where he was a dedicated bass player in the worship band, and where he met his wife, Kelly. In 2007, he moved to Grand Rapids, where he was employed at West Pharmaceuticals as an engineering technician until April this year.  Mike had a vast knowledge of assembly lines, was in a mentor program through Penn State University, and a huge asset to the engineering and validation department at West.

He leaves behind a vast number of lifelong friendships and will always be known as a "goofball" and "Pooh".  Michael was involved in local Christian musician groups throughout the two past decades.  He loved playing bass guitar, playing sudoku, camping, traveling, going to the gun range, and eating.  He will be missed by his loving pets, especially Dr. Bransford Anthony. Mike had a big heart and loved doing things for others.  He always gave to those less fortunate.  You always laughed when he was around.  His family and friends have many wonderful memories full of laughter and fun.  Mike loved his country and was a Patriot. He loved the Lord with all his heart and held a personal relationship with his heavenly Father.

Michael is survived by beloved wife Kelly (Haas), formally of Sand Creek, Michigan; his loving son William (Tony) Curatolo of St. Petersburg, Florida; his mother, Florence Curatolo (Nennig) of Valrico, Florida; his brother, Phillip Curatolo of Valrico, Florida; his sister Carol Werner (Charlie Wing) of Largo Florida; two nephews and a godson.  He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Curatolo, and his grandparents.

The family would like to thank the doctors at University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and personally Dr. Aaron Berg, MD, for his compassion and care during Mike's short stay.  His dedication to Michael's case is what made it possible for him to come home during the last few days of his life on earth.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Michael's honor at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Michigan Humane Society or Wounded Warrior Project.
