Obituary

Michael John Bodziak, age 74, of Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2022. Born of Polish-Catholic heritage in Buffalo, NY, he was the first child of John and Irene Bodziak. Mike was raised in Lackawanna, NY, where he fell for the love of his life, Camille, in their high school Latin class. The couple recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.

At age 19, Mike enlisted in the Air Force, bravely serving his country in Vietnam. He was then stationed in England, where he and Camille welcomed their first son, Robert. The next assignment took them to Omaha, NE, and soon their little family expanded by two more sons - Jeff, followed by Brad. Many lifelong friends were made in Omaha, and Mike loved to share stories of the shenanigans that went on with the neighborhood crew on the legendary Monroe Circle.

After eight years in the military, Mike began a long and successful career with the US Postal Service. Starting as a mail sorter, he worked his way up to Facilities Engineer, while simultaneously attending college and remaining a huge influence and support during his sons' many years playing in various baseball leagues. His job at the post office brought the family to Michigan in the 90s, where Mike proudly started a new career as "Papa" to Kolya, Jayden, Tristan, Levi and Alycea. Mike went on to earn a Master of Science in Project Management degree from the GW School of Business at age 53. He retired from the post office after 28 years, treasuring the many friends he made during his time there.

In retirement, Mike's days were spent with his good friend Kip and their buddies at the American Legion Boat and Canoe Club, faithfully delivering meals with Camille for Meals on Wheels West Mi, and walking his constant companion and world's most pampered dog, Lexi. He enjoyed taking day trips to Saugatuck or Pentwater with Camille, playing in his golf league at Maple Hills with Brad, visiting Bob's family in Dallas, and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer (and not so discreetly critique the umpires) at Levi's baseball games with Jeff. He was a steadfast fan of the Buffalo Bills and headed back to NY as often as possible to catch a game with his sons and his trusty partner in crime, his sidekick and cousin, Linda Bodziak. The most important thing to Mike was his family, and we will miss his presence in our lives tremendously.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert, who died in childhood. He is survived by Camille; his sons, Robert (Rachel), Jeff (Danielle), and Brad (Ann); beloved grandchildren and fishing partners, Kolya Bodziak; Jayden,Tristan and Levi Bodziak; and Alycea Piccione; along with several cherished Buffalo cousins and Omaha friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Mike's name to Meals on Wheels West Michigan, 2900 Wilson Ave SW Suite 500, Grandville, MI 49418, Attn: Nancy F; or American Legion Post 356, 401 North Park NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. A memorial service will be held in late spring or early summer. Service Details.
