Melissa's early years in Michigan set the stage for a life filled with love and service. Her commitment to her country was evident in her 27 years of service in the Air Force Reserves, where she formed lasting friendships and left a legacy of honor and dedication. Melissa's work ethic and the camaraderie she shared with her fellow service members were a testament to her character.

In Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she passed away, Melissa was surrounded by the warmth of her family, including her beloved sons Timothy, Trevor, and Orlando, and her daughter Kiyome. Timothy and his wife Erika blessed her with a granddaughter, Lily, while Trevor and his wife Jessica gave her granddaughter Julia and the joyous anticipation of another baby girl. Her sister Jennifer Perry, along with her cherished pets—dogs Cooper, Bella, and Teddy, and cats Gizmo, Princess, and Simba—added to the tapestry of her vibrant home life. Melissa was predeceased by her sister Leslie Wickerink, her mother Kristine Wickerink, her father Dan Wickerink.
