Obituary

Max Alan Rodgers, 73, of Holland, Michigan entered eternal rest on June 5, 2025 ending his battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend with a sense of humor, competitive spirit, and love of life that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

He was born in Mishawaka, IN on March 3, 1952 to Van and Maxine Rodgers. Max graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1972 and later took courses in Human Resources and Business at Davenport College in Holland, MI.

Max met Cynthia (Kowalski) Nawrot in 1984. They were married in 1987 with a blended family and lived in South Bend, Indiana, Allegan, and Holland, Michigan.

He spent 32 years in the trucking industry. Then worked in Douglas, Michigan as the Director of Public Works until his retirement in 2019.

Max was happy being on the water fishing. When living in South Bend/Mishawaka, he fished with the PNA Fishing Club and the St. Joe Valley Bass Masters. He also fished Pro Bass Tournaments and was a
Berkley Fishing Rep.

An avid bowler, Max could often be found at the local lanes where he bowled not just strikes, but also formed lifelong friendships. He bowled for many years with his teammates and competed in numerous ABC tournaments across the country.

Max enjoyed the outdoors and had a deep compassion for animals. He liked being out on the golf course with friends and family. Later in life, you could often find him on his tractor working on a project or just sitting by the pond with his pet dog(s) close by. Max also liked volunteering at the local animal shelter doing whatever he could for the animals.

There weren't many card games Max didn't know, and he always loved playing cards with friends and family. Playing Monopoly and other board games also made many happy memories with others, especially his grandchildren. The past few years were filled with the enjoyment of playing cards at Evergreen Commons Senior Center, where he developed some true friendships and fun times.

Max was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Claude Rodgers.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his children Meredith Atkins (David), Bryan Rodgers, Jennifer Hall (Ian), Jeffrey Nawrot, his grandchildren, and his brother, Van Rodgers Jr. Max treasured the time he got to spend with his grandchildren Miles Atkins, Amelia Rodgers, Norah Rodgers, and Cecilia Atkins.

Max will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in the many memories shared by family and friends. Abiding by Max's wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family appreciates any memorial contributions be made to Harbor Humane Society in Holland , Hospice of Holland , or the charity of your choice.
