November 6, 1976 – October 23, 2023
GRAND RAPIDS - Matt Scott, 46, passed away on October 23, 2023, in Grand Rapids, Michigan after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 6, 1976 in Saginaw, Michigan to Sally Fein and Mike Scott.
Matt was a loving husband to Serenity Scott and a devoted father to Cymbre Spoehr (Michael Spoehr), Eli Scott, Allegra Scott, Shiloh Scott, Odelia Scott, and Felicity Scott. He is also survived by his parents, Sally Fein and Mike Scott (Sue Scott), siblings Stacy Shrum (Justin and Judah Shrum) and Tim Scott (Kelley, Benny, Grayson, and Everleigh Scott), and many extended family members and many dear friends. Matt was preceded in death by his niece Kora Shrum.
Matt was a fun and energetic individual. He was always up for learning and adventures. He was an exceptional problem solver and loved a challenge. He enthusiastically embraced being a mentor for Code Red Robotics. He enjoyed competitive sailing throughout his life, racing with his father, brother, and son on "Squealer" and with friends on "Old Blue Eyes." Matt also found camaraderie, purpose, and value with his coworkers at Worksighted. Most of all, Matt loved his Lord, and he loved his church. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He could always be found fixing or upgrading technical equipment or leading Sunday School.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4, at 2:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located at 4201 Burlingame Ave SW, Wyoming, MI 49509. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Project ReGen at Holy Trinity. Matt had always expressed his desire to donate "Matt Scott Memorial Bricks" for refurbishing the church's exterior.
Please join us in honoring and celebrating the life of Matt Scott. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
