Obituary

Masanori Takeda, 68, of Grand Rapids, MI went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Rest Haven Homes. He was born January 2, 1954 in Japan where he spent his childhood and adolescence. Masanori met Edris Rebecca Smythe in Germany through mutual friends. They later wed in Washington and moved to Japan for a short while. Masanori earned his master's degree in Business from the University of Washington upon their return to the United States. He worked as an International Business Consultant for the Japanese American Chamber of Commerce. Masanori and Edris moved to Orange County, CA and then back to Grand Rapids where they have remained for over twenty years. Recently, they relocated to Rest Haven Homes where they made new friends and enjoyed their Christian fellowship and care.

Masanori was a man of many talents, and he held many interests. Among those were motorcycle and car racing, furniture building and cooking, especially Japanese Sushi. Masanori loved the time he spent with his faithful canine companions, Kode and Merlin, both purebred Keeshounds. His greatest passion, though, was studying the Bible. The most important part of his life was his faith in Jesus Christ. Masanori became a Christian in Japan through missionaries. From that point on, he studied the Bible verse by verse. His office was filled with many different Bible studies, reference materials and sermons. Masanori and Edris hosted other families in their home on Sundays to study the Bible together. Masanori enjoyed meeting on Thursday mornings with his group of men at a local coffee shop to read the bible together and share what God was teaching them through His Word. One of his favorite books of the Bible was Romans and his favorite verse was Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."

In addition to his wife of over thirty years, Edris Rebecca (Smythe) Takeda, Masanori is survived by his brother-in-law, Thomas O. Smythe (Tanya Rankin Smythe); niece, Caitlin Smythe MacKenzie (William Kuhn MacKenzie); and nephew, Colin Cameron Smythe.
