IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jane
Loonsfoot
December 17, 1931 – January 4, 2026
Mary Jane Loonsfoot, a cherished soul whose hands created warmth and comfort for many, passed away peacefully on January 4th, 2026, at the age of 94 in Allendale, Michigan. Born on December 17th, 1931, in the small town of Negaunee, Michigan, Mary Jane's journey through life was marked by her passion for the traditional arts and an unwavering spirit of joy that she generously shared with everyone she met. Mary Jane's early years in Negaunee were filled with the simple pleasures of small-town life, where community and tradition were woven into the fabric of her being. She carried these values throughout her life, much like the intricate patterns of her beloved quilts. Her hands, always nimble and busy, found their calling in the arts of quilting and crocheting. Mary Jane's creations were not just mere handiwork; they were tangible expressions of her love and care, which she bestowed upon friends, family, and even strangers who were lucky enough to receive a piece of her craft. Mary Jane is survived by her children, Jean (Russ) Wierenga, Robert Loonsfoot, Allen (Rayetta) Loonsfoot, Rosanne Petznik, Vicki Frank, Wayne (Florence) Loonsfoot, Karen Selby, Cynthia (Jerry) Curtis, Michael (Rhonda) Loonsfoot, Christine Loonsfoot, Timothy (Kelli) Loonsfoot; daughter-in-law, Julie Murray and sister-in-law, Diane Decota and son-in-law, Ken Curl; 54 grandchildren; over 100 great-grandchildren; along with many great-great and great-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Loonsfoot; second husband, Virgil Loonsfoot; daughters, Dawn Loonsfoot and Kathryn Curl; son, Ron Murray and son-in-law, Larry Petznik. As much as she loved her needlework, Mary Jane also had a zest for the vibrant atmosphere of casinos. This enthusiasm was a testament to her belief in taking chances and embracing the joys of the moment, a philosophy that she applied to every aspect of her life. Mary Jane's presence was a comforting constant in the lives of those she touched. She had a unique ability to listen with a compassionate ear and to offer words of wisdom that often carried others through their struggles. Her sense of humor was a source of endless delight, and her laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of all who heard it. In the tapestry of Mary Jane Loonsfoot's life, each thread represented a life she touched, a story she told, or a moment of happiness she created. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the legacy of warmth, beauty, and resilience she has left behind. Her quilts, much like her memory, will continue to provide comfort and solace to those who wrap themselves in them. Mary Jane's life was a beautiful pattern of love, creativity, and adventure. As we bid her farewell, we take solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the countless lives she enriched and the vibrant memories she leaves with us. Mary Jane Loonsfoot was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and her radiance will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
