December 9, 2014 Mary Ellen Hargrave 1943 - 2014 Mary Ellen Hargrave, age 71, of Grand Haven passed away peacefully on December 9, 2014 with her husband by her side. Mary was born in Alpena, Michigan July 8, 1943 to Cecil and Gladys Meston. The family lived in Atlanta, Michigan. Mary attended nursing school at Cadillac Mercy and worked as an LPN at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. It was through a co-worker at Sparrow Mary met and later married her husband of 47 years, Gale Hargrave. They lived in Livonia, Michigan for many years where Mary worked on and off in County offices there. In 1996 Mary and Gale had a house built and moved to Grand Haven to be closer to family. Mary and Gale enjoyed traveling and spending time visiting friends and family while staying at their cabin in Atlanta, Michigan. Mary was an avid reader and cross word puzzle solver. She was a good host and their home was always open for friends and family to drop by and/or stay awhile. Mary is survived by her husband, Gale; son, Chad (Renee') Hargrave and grandson, Neal of Alto, Michigan; mother, Gladys Meston; siblings, Barbara (Dale) Valentine, James (Emma) Meston; sister-in-law, Susan Meston; all from the Grand Haven/Spring Lake area; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Meston; and brother, Milton Meston. The memorial service for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13 at Vanzantwick Bartels Kammeraad in Grand Haven. The family will also be available for a visitation an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or The Thin Blue Line of Michigan.
