Obituary

Mary Lou Dozeman passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the age of 73. She is survived by daughters Morgan Bright and Rochelle Bright-VerStrate (Steven) and 3 grandsons - Jordan Clawson, and Hudson & Logan VerStrate. Also surviving are siblings Rose Haaksma, Bruce (Gwen) Dozeman, Maureen Jo Dozeman, Hilton (Lynn) Dozeman, Miles (Mary Sue) Dozeman, Rochelle Everhart, and Craig (Michelle) Dozeman in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by parents Morris and Beatrice Dozeman and brother Eliot Dozeman. Mary grew up in Forest Grove and attended Zeeland High School. She was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan where she graduated with a double major/double minor in languages (English, Spanish, German, and Latin). She spent many years on her farm outside of Hopkins, MI raising a variety of critters including beef cows, dairy goats, horses, and stray cats and dogs. In recent years she had taken on many displaced and abandoned animals. Mary enjoyed music, good jokes, and the Detroit Tigers. She had a fierce love of reading, and her favorite books included Gone with the Wind, The Egg and I, mysteries, books about Princess Diana, and others by James Herriot, Maeve Binchy, and Shel Silverstein. She loved the movies Sister Act, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and A League of Their Own. The family has requested any donations be made in Mary's name to the Hopkins Public Library. A celebration of life visitation will take place in the coming weeks.
