Obituary

Mary Louise Dillon-Shuert, 86 of Caledonia, Michigan passed away on May 5, 2025, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on July 24, 1938, to Wilson and Lora Cyrus in Milton, West Virginia. Mary, a woman of unwavering faith and boundless love, was a cherished wife to her loving and devoted husband, Des Shuert, and a loving mother to her children, Tim (Vicki) Dillon, Mark (Julie) Dillon, Cindy (Rob) Mirque and Susan (Tom) Zeitter. She was a proud grandmother to sixteen grandchildren, a great-grandmother to nine, with two more on the way, and had several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Carol Corns, and Jerri (Ken) Gainer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Before Des entered her life, Mary shared a beautiful chapter with her first husband and father of her children, Rev. Donald Dillon, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings Patsy Minnetti, Peggy Luikhart and Bill Cyrus.
Throughout her life, Mary found joy in helping others. She was a familiar and friendly face at Gilda's Club, where she volunteered as a receptionist, touching the lives of those who walked through the doors with her kindness and warmth. Her involvement with Visiting Angels further showcased her generous nature, as she provided support and companionship to those in need. A pillar of strength and devotion, Mary was an active member of Calvary Church and Orchard View Church of God. It was there, alongside her late husband Don, who served as the pastor for many years, that she exemplified a life of faith and service.
Mary loved spending time in the sun, whether on her deck at home, on the beaches of Lake Michigan or vacationing in Florida. She loved to travel, a reflection of her adventurous spirit. Mary found joy in the pages of a good book, and in the serenity of nature while camping and boating. Above all, Mary's love for God and family was the cornerstone of her life. Selfless until the end, she embodied love, kindness and a faith-filled heart, thinking of family and others first in all things. She faced life's trials with grace and a smile, and her resilience stood as a testament to the strength of her loving soul.
Mary's family wishes to thank the entire team at Corewell Health Hospice who provided loving care to Mary and her family during the final years of her life.

A memorial service to honor Mary's life will be held on June 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Ofield Funeral Home.
