Marvin William Smith, known affectionately as Marv to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the age of 73. Marv's life was a testament to his enduring spirit and the love he shared with those around him.
Marv spent his entire professional career as a dedicated driver and Union Steward for Good Metals, where he was not only respected for his work ethic but also deeply appreciated for his unwavering support and advocacy for his fellow workers. His colleagues will remember him as a man of integrity.
A proud alumnus of Godwin Heights High School, Marv carried the lessons he learned there throughout his life, applying them not only to his career but also to his personal interests. He was an avid chess player, a hobby that showcased his strategic thinking and patience.
Marv's legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his daughter, Heidi Zanchettin, and her husband, Kyle; his son, Tony Vettese, and his wife, Ashley; and the many friends who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a source of strength, wisdom, and humor for his loved ones, and he will be deeply missed by all.
Though he has departed from this world, the imprint Marv left on the hearts of those who loved him will never fade. His gentle guidance and the echoes of his laughter will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
