Obituary

Martin John Ludwick, affectionately known as Mart or Marty to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, at his daughter's home in Newaygo, MI. Marty's life was marked by his kind spirit, humorous nature, and wisdom that touched the lives of many.

He was born on July 22, 1951, in Grand Rapids, MI. He spent most of his younger years living in Grand Rapids, and later lived in Newaygo, MI. He did enjoy a bit of time in Wisconsin and Minnesota, but considered Newaygo his home as he graduated from Newaygo High School in 1969. He especially loved living on Pickeral and Emerald Lakes in his early adulthood. After retirement, he enjoyed his time living with his daughter's family in Newaygo and being close to his son and his family in Fremont, MI.

Marty was an extremely hard worker from a young age. His interest was piqued when he started helping his father at Van Eerden Produce Company at the age of 12. He went on to graduate from Michigan State University with a degree in food science, a field that led to his career in food management, warehousing and logistics. His leadership and work ethic were well respected. He was always one who rolled up his sleeves to help get the job done, and wasn't afraid to speak up when needed. His colleagues will remember him not just for his professional contributions but also for the laughter and camaraderie he brought to the workplace.

Marty's zest for life was unparalleled. He was happiest when he was on the water, whether it was water skiing, taking his children on wild tube rides, fishing for freshwater perch, or enjoying the tranquility of a quiet pontoon ride. The thrill of snowmobiling in the winter months and his love for NASCAR racing were testaments to his adventurous spirit. Marty was also an avid card player. He particularly enjoyed playing Cribbage and relished the challenge of a good competitive game. He also found immense pleasure in the simple acts of taking care of his home, working in the yard, and preparing delicious sought-after meals.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cleo Ludwick, his first wife, Anne (VandenBeldt) Ludwick, and his second wife, Cyndy (Kuhfeldt) Ludwick. Marty was a steadfast and loving father to John (Amber) Ludwick and Heather (Leif) Johnson, a cherished brother to Carol (Dan) Powers, Kathy Bader, and Alison (Brian) Hatcher. He was an adored grandfather to his three grandchildren, Avery, Lauren, and his namesake, Martin. He was deeply loved as an uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a treasured cousin and friend. Each family member carries with them the experience of his love, the memory of his laughter, and his humility.

Marty was a quiet and humble man, and always sought to embody the Christian virtues of love, kindness, and compassion. His legacy is one of joy, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. His passing leaves a void in the lives of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. We take solace in knowing that Marty's life was a testament to the beauty of human connection and the enduring power of kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of life will be held for Marty in the summer of 2026; date forthcoming.
