Martin “Marty” Gray, age 72, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026. He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his daughter who sat by his side in his final moments.

Born in Texas, Martin spent his childhood moving from between California, New York, Japan and several others as the child of an Army serviceman. He settled down in San Diego California where he raised his family. In retirement he lived in Las Vegas, NV and then moved to Holland, MI to spend his final years close to his daughter.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah Gray with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. Their love and life together remained an important part of who he was.

He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Holmer, his pride and joy. He will be deeply missed by Samantha, her husband Jeffrey Holmer, his sister Jill James, his brother Lawrence Gray and their families. In addition, Jennifer McIntyre, who while not related by blood was considered family in all ways that mattered and held a special place in his heart. Marty will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, generosity, strong work ethic, and ability to bring joy to his neighbors and friends.

Known as the “official cookie dealer” of the neighborhood, he found joy in baking cookies for the neighbors and putting them out for all to enjoy. Marty treasured the time he spent with those whom he loved. His memory will live on through his daughter and all those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and a family who will carry him in their hearts forever.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no funeral or elaborate service. He preferred simplicity and asked that his passing be honored quietly without frills or fanfare.

A lover of animals and animal rescues, Marty loved his cherished chihuahua Pi. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that donations be made in his memory to Harbor Humane Society in Holland, MI. His love and compassion for his beloved rescue chihuahua, Pi, made this a cause especially close to his heart.
