Mark Pinson McGregor, 78, of Kentwood, MI, passed away October 18, 2025, after a long battle with diabetes. Mark is survived by his children, Michelle McGregor Barros (Carlo) of Chicago, IL and Matthew McGregor (Nicole), two beloved granddaughters, Sasha and Ella McGregor, of Charlotte, NC, his devoted sisters Cathy OBrien and Karen Bezemek, both of West Michigan, along with many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Mark was preceded in death by his loving sister, Nancy Hall, and parents Phyllis McGregor, Robert McGregor, and Ken Pinson.
Mark graduated from Niles High School in Niles, MI in 1965 and went on to graduate from Chic University of Cosmetology in Grand Rapids. He enjoyed a long career in the hair industry, becoming CFO of Salon Enterprises, parent company of Panopoulos Salons, Haircuts Plus, and Chic University of Cosmetology, until retirement. Mark was well known in the industry, serving in various leadership roles in both Michigan and National professional cosmetology organizations.
As an avid sailor, Mark fulfilled his dream of owning a sailboat, which was a source of joy for many years. He was also a certified scuba diver, he completed an Outward Bound sailing adventure, and enjoyed extensive traveling. His favorite places to unwind were on his boat 'Nepenthean', on Sanibel Island, in Suttons Bay, MI, and being with family.
Mark was an active supporter of his community and of the arts in West Michigan, as a former President and board member of Grand Rapids Civic Theater in addition to years serving on the board of Meals on Wheels Western Michigan.
He was a lifelong Detroit Lions fan, as well as Michigan State, his children's alma mater.
Mark's passion for music was diverse and eclectic, ranging from classical to Broadway to rock, in particular his favorite band, Jethro Tull.
A private ceremony will be held at a future date to celebrate Mark's life.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Grand Rapids Civic Theater and Meals on Wheels West Michigan , in his memory.
