IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark Allan
Hoekzema
March 9, 1959 – February 17, 2021
Mark Allan Hoekzema, 61, deeply loved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away on February, 17th, 2021. He is survived by his wife Cindy, his daughter Megan, and his son Evan (Melodie), along with his mother, Dolores Hoekzema, brother Steve (Paula) Hoekzema, sister Deb (Jeff) Poppen, granddaughters Nora and Naomi Hoekzema, along with aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins and friends.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and attended Calvin University. He worked as a builder for most of his adult life until driving a truck for Pearson Foods, and finally as a site supervisor for Kent County's Habitat for Humanity. He loved building and fixing things, along with teaching others how to as well.
He was an avid golfer, who rarely hit with a wood but could crush the ball with a low iron and who was a fiend around the green with chipping and putting. He was a family man, a hard worker, and loved being around people. He was adventurous, fearless, and stubborn. He made a mean pot roast most Sundays for lunch with his world class cup of gravy. He was a beloved husband and father, and a good man.
There will not be visitation with family, but there will be a memorial service held at All Shores Wesleyan Church in Spring Lake on Saturday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m. Masks are required and the service will be socially-distanced. If you are unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed on allshores.org/live
