Hoffman, Marjorie 11/5/1916 - 4/14/2017 Grand Rapids Marjorie Florence (Johnson) Hoffman age 100 of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017. Marjorie grew up in Chicago, IL. After graduating from high school, she worked at Carson Pirie Scott as a salesclerk in the notions department. It was there that she met Ron Hoffman and the two were married in 1942. Marjorie and Ron moved to Grand Rapids in 1953, where they raised their two daughters and were active in the community. They attended South Congregational Church, where they were involved in many activities including helping the homeless. Marjorie was always busy and particularly loved sewing. Her doll clothes for her children and grandchildren were greatly admired. She also produced a prodigious amount of beautiful quilts for her family. When Marjorie joined Plymouth United Church of Christ, she put her needle to use making dozens of quilts for the Re-Member Project, providing warm blankets for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Berry Johnson and Theodore Johnson, her brother, Robert Johnson and her husband Roland Parker Hoffman. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Ann Bialk (Larry) of Grand Rapids and Carol Beth Hoffman (Stan Ore) of Bradenton, Florida and Fish Creek, Wisconsin, four grandchildren, Sarah Beth Nicholas (Jim) and Andrew Theodore Bialk; Laura Jane (Lindquist) Young (Christopher) and Melissa Mae (Lindquist) Masters (Richard) and seven great-grandchildren: Addison Claire Bohne, Chloe Elizabeth Bohne, Theodore Carberry Young, Jamison Lindquist Young, Madeline Grace Masters, Emma Sophia Masters and Benjamin Michael Masters. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM on Friday, July 28 at Ofield Funeral Home at 4500 Kalamazoo Ave. SE. To honor Marjorie's memory, the family asks for donations to Pilgrim Manor in lieu of flowers. Always centered on family, Marjorie adored her grandchildren and great-grand children.
