Marilyn Knutson, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 5, 2017. She was the daughter of Floyd and Corinne Cederlund. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and the University of Michigan, where she received her degree in elementary education. She then taught at Aberdeen Elementary in Grand Rapids for several years until starting a family. Later on she returned to work as a social worker for the State of Michigan, concentrating in the field of adult foster care. Marilyn was great fan of the University of Michigan, especially the basketball and football programs, and enjoyed many years of tailgating in Ann Arbor and attending football games. She also enjoyed travelling with friends, playing golf, and working in her garden. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Earl R. Knutson, Jr. She is survived by her sons Stephen Knutson and Scott Knutson. Friends may visit Tuesday, January 10 from 1-3 pm and 5-8 pm at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave, S.E. A private burial will take place on Wednesday at Fairplains Cemetery. Contributions may be made to University of Michigan Scholarship Funds.
