Marilyn Anne Burgess, age 82, of Portage, MI passed away peacefully August 7, 2025. As a mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, Marilyn was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Marilyn was born February 14,1943 in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Clarence Burgess and Winifred Cates (formerly Burgess). She was the sister of Ron Burgess and half sister of Bruce Cates.

Marilyn was a devoted foster parent, a proud Girl Scout leader, and an active community volunteer, always opening her heart to those in need. Her commitment to service touched countless lives and reflected her deep compassion for others. In her later years, she continued that spirit of giving by knitting and donating over 100 hats each year for people experiencing homelessness. Above all, Marilyn devoted much of her time to her family, cherishing every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Trisha Farrell and Leslie (Daniel) Christian; her grandchildren, Caitlin (Jerry) Lutz, Shannon Farrell, Meagan Farrell, Kendall (Samuel) Sajdak, Andrew Christian, and Ellie Christian. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Francis Cates; her stepmother, Lucille Burgess; and her son-in-law, Michael Farrell.

Marilyn's memorial will be a private gathering for family, with her final resting place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid, Michigan.
