Marija Sakota, age 54, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 after a short illness. Marija was born June 2,1964 in Gradacac, Bosnia to Simeun and Boja Djuric. On June 2,1984 she married Novica Sakota. In 2003, Marija, Novica and their two daughters left their beloved Serbia and immigrated to the United States. What courage and determination it took to make such a brave move. They settled into their new life in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They worked hard, found employment, learned the English language, educated their daughters and had a fine home. Their journey is an inspiration. Marija was previously employed at Johnson Controls for 15 years. Starting on the production line, she advanced to productions supervisor. Marija was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be loved and missed forever. Marija is survived by her husband Novica, her daughters Natasa (Nathan) Mikos and Bojana (fiance Jason Whitten) Sakota and grandchildren Tiana Mikos and Lucas Whitten. She is also survived by her mother Boja Djuric of Serbia and sister, Milica (Stanko) Milindjic of Serbia. She was preceded in death by her father Simeun Djuric and brother Obrad Djuric.
