IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marian Louise
Griffin
June 12, 1951 – November 7, 2021
On the morning of November 7th, our sweet, faithful, and determined Marian gained her angel wings. All who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her kind soul understand the im she has left in our hearts. Although we are deeply saddened by this great loss, we know that she is "having a ball" in Heaven.
While she never had any children of her own, she was more of mother to Jennifer, her Funny Face, than an aunt…which carried through to her great niece and nephew, Hayley and Michael. And we all know that her cats, Frisky Lynn and Dylan Joseph, were more like kids to her than pets.
It goes without saying, but Marian was the light, sparkle, and laughter of any room she was in. She lived a long, humble, yet fruitful life despite her continuous battle with epilepsy. She loved her work at Blodgett Hospital, a place where she touched so many lives and built some lifelong friendships. Mary Jane (we're sure you were the first of many she connected with in heaven), Canary Bird, and Veronica…Eileen, a neighbor who eventually became her "mom" - you were all so important to her.
Marian had a love and passion for flowers and gardening that rivaled any green thumb out there. From early spring to late fall, sun up to sun down, you would find her toiling away in her garden…one of the most stunning around. Her garden was beautiful and a proud part of her life. If you ever needed advice on how to grow a dahlia, she knew what to do. And if she wasn't in her garden, you could likely find her swimming laps at MVP.
Marian was a woman of strong faith and leaving this earth was not a fear she had. If you expressed concern, you were quickly met with a "Dear Jesus!" She met fear with faith throughout her entire life. And all who knew her can take a small bit of comfort in her passing knowing that she is looking down, watching over us, with that big, genuine Marian grin and that loud, infectious Marian laugh. Just close your eyes for a moment…if you knew Marian, you can hear her laugh right now...
Born on the southeast side of Grand Rapids to Jim Langford Griffin and Rosemary Drueke Griffin, Marian is survived by her five siblings - Chris, Tom, Jim, Bob (Jane), and Mary Gretchen Buth - 11 nieces and nephews, and 17 great nieces and nephews…all of whom she loved unconditionally.
A memorial will be held in her honor at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 5125 Cascade Rd, at 11am on June 9, 2022…just days before her 71st birthday, with a luncheon reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Best Pals Animal Rescue (https://bestpalsarc.wixsite.com/bestpals) are encouraged. Service Details.
