January 11, 2015 Service: January 17, 2015 Marian J. DeBruyn, age 91, of Hastings, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Arend "Ott" DeBruyn, sons Arlin Gregg DeBruyn and Arthur Joe DeBruyn, sisters Jean Boluyt and Barb Sluiter. Surviving are her sons Arend "Mick" Martin (Sue) DeBruyn, Allen John (Cindy) DeBruyn, Arwin Craig DeBruyn; granddaughter Stephanie (Jason) Knoll; grandsons Martin (Lucy) DeBruyn, Jason (Stacy) DeBruyn; great-grandchild Nathan Knoll; brother John (Pat) Sluiter; sisters Jeane (Jack) Cooley, Betty Appel; and daughter in-law Suzy DeBruyn; numerous brothers and sisters in law; nieces and nephews from the DeBruyn/Sluiter families Marian enjoyed sewing, crafts and taking pictures - she always had a camera in hand. Mary also enjoyed traveling, visiting Hawaii and going on cruises with her husband and seeing Alaska with her sister after her husband passed. After moving to Florida in 1982, she would return to Michigan with her husband and later by herself for extended stays with her sons and grandkids. She also worked at Holly's Landing in Grand Rapids from 1968-1982 as a waitress. In 1982 she moved to Florida to be with her son John to help in his rehabilitation. She volunteered 13 hours a day for 15 years at Heritage Health and Rehabilitation in Naples, FL where her son Allen John was a patient. She moved back to Michigan in January of 2011 where she lived out the rest of her days as a patient at Magnum Care of Hastings nursing home. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to Great Lakes Hospice and Magnum Care of Hastings for all the wonderful care given Marian in her time of need. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17th at 11:00am with viewing starting at 10:00am at the Ofield Funeral Home 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, MI 49508. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice or Magnum Care of Hastings.
