Obituary

Margaret Louise "Margie' Piell went to be with the Lord in the early hours of December 24, 2021, at Trillium Woods in Byron Center, MI. Mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend, she will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1945 into a family of generations of shoemakers, it's no wonder she was most comfortable working in a shoe store fitting people for the perfect pair of shoes for their needs. She was a natural and a pro. Margie knew her shoes.

More than that, Margie loved people. She genuinely cared about the customers she served, her neighbors in her apartment building, the people she met when she'd hang out at the truck stop for a cup of coffee, anyone and everyone. She made friends everywhere she went. Margie's generosity was such that she'd give you her last dollar with no struggle if she thought it would help. She always had a cheerful, kind word to give anyone she encountered in her day.

She loved to sit on her patio and watch the hummingbirds that came to her feeder, the deer who lived in the small patch of woods across from her, and chat with the neighbors as they walked by. She even had a garden toad that lived in her flower bed for years. She named him Hermes and was sad when he died. She missed her garden friend. She loved her patio and that inspired a lot of patio-type Mother's Day gifts over the years. It was her lovely little oasis.

Anyone who knew Margie knew of her obsession with Mr. Burger - especially the olive burgers and strawberry pie. She was even known to send her cleaning lady out to get Mr. Burger for her when she had an olive burger craving. They should have hired her to be their spokesperson. She definitely did her part to keep them in business.

Margie was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. Being with her family was one of her greatest pleasures and she had fun chatting with everyone via FaceTime, Facebook, and yes, even Snapchat. She was that cool. Her cheerful loving presence will be greatly missed.

Margie is survived by her children, David, Anita, and Darlene; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
