Margaret Maureen (Chapman, Hall, Spitler) Drumm, aka Maureen, mom, grandma, (or ‘Rennie’ when she was young), died at home in hospice care, with loved ones by her side on Thursday, August 27, 2026. She blessed this earth and all of us for 73 years.

Maureen knew peace through her faith in God. She would often mention her favorite Bible verse, John 3:16, which gave her strength and courage throughout her life.

Maureen was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and a dear friend to many. Maureen was known for her quick wit and kind heart. If you were loved by her… you knew it! She kept her keen mind and her silly playful sense of humor until the very end.

She was adored by her five children. She taught them how to love deeply and how to put family first. She always let you know you were her favorite (favorite youngest daughter, favorite middle son, etc.) and she loved joining in on any fun to be had. Her FOMO kept her active, traveling from coast to coast to be with family creating memories as often as she could.

Her deep love extended far beyond her five children. She loved, was loved by, and will be missed by so many — brothers, cousins, in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. “Family” (by blood, by marriage, and chosen) was everything to her.

Maureen was born on Tuesday, February 3, 1953 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Charles and Merlyn Chapman. She grew up in Hudsonville, Michigan and graduated from Hudsonville High School in 1971.

She spent time living in Michigan, Germany (while her first husband Tom was in the military), and Oregon, and some of her greatest storytelling came from her adventures while living and traveling in Europe.

Maureen was married to Thomas Hall just after high school, and while their marriage did not last, they remained close friends until his death in 2021. Together they had two children, Thomas (Tommy) and Andrea, the eldest of her five children. She later married Dennis Spitler, and together they brought Cory into the world. Her final marriage was to David Drumm and together they brought her youngest two children, Sarah, and David, into the mix. All five of her children remain close to this day and thank their mom for the deep love and respect they continue to have for one another.

Maureen loved being a grandma so much that she inherited several “bonus” grandchildren over the years. She loved them all as if they were her own flesh and blood.

Maureen had quite the sweet tooth and loved making treats for milestones, special occasions, or “just because”. Some of her specialties were no-bake cookies, snickerdoodles, and her famous no-bake blueberry cheesecake. She also loved a hearty helping of Edy’s Extra Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream and her face would light up like a little kid as she poured caramel sauce on top. Maureen loved hosting Sunday dinners where the family would gather together to enjoy a home cooked meal and finish off the night laughing together while watching America’s Funniest Home Videos.

Anyone who knew Maureen, knew she was an animal lover. From her childhood horse, Molly, her protective dog Gretchen, to the many rescue cats, and beloved dogs over the years, she was in her happy place with a pet on her lap. Her final pet, Ginger, helped to keep her spirits up during her final days with ample cat cuddles and “I love you” meows — a love language shared just between the two of them.

Maureen was a caregiver, the one you called on when you were sick, sad, or needed a hug. In the end, her husband, Dave, took on the role as her main caregiver. His patience, kindness, and love as he cared for her in her final months, weeks, and days is a gift of true love that will never be forgotten and will always be cherished.

Maureen leaves behind a legacy of love. Her expressions of love will forever live in the hearts of her family and friends and will grow and blossom in future generations as her stories and memories continue to be shared.

Maureen chose a Living Celebration of Life and the family is grateful for all who attended her celebration this past April. As per Maureen's wishes, no formal funeral will be held; instead, to honor Maureen, we encourage you to turn up your favorite song, dance your heart out, and smile.
