IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maimu
Minch
February 9, 1939 – July 15, 2022
Maimu Maidla Minch (Mae), 83, of Wyoming, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on July 15th, 2022, after a long, arduous battle with lung, breast, and thyroid cancer. She was with her son and daughter at the time of her passing.
Maimu was born on February 9th, 1939 to Elizabet and Karl Maidla in Tallinn, Estonia. Fortunate to have survived a Russian invasion and a world at war, Maimu arrived in New York City in 1949 and saw the Statue of Liberty for the first time, the sight of which, "took her breath away." Maimu grew up on Long Island, New York, graduated from Patchogue High School in 1957, and went on to college to earn her associate's degree in Business Administration.
Maimu was married to Bill Thom from 1958 until 1966. She then married Phillip Minch from 1967 to 1991, having two children, Phillip and Kristina Minch. When Maimu had her first child, she dedicated her life to being the best mother she could be. Maimu stood strong as the foundation of her family, was a great listener, an amazing cook and baker, always knew the right things to say, never missed a special date, and was a fierce friend, cheerleader, confidant, and supporter.
Maimu loved the outdoors, camping, and boating, was a passionate fisherwoman, enjoyed picking fresh fruits like strawberries, cherries, and apples, but adored nothing more than picking and eating blueberries. Many times when she was picking blueberries from the bushes, there was often a question of her eating more than she picked - and she picked a lot! Maimu loved her blueberries - of that there is no doubt.
Once her children were grown, Maimu returned to the workforce to become the Director of Circulation for This Week Publications of New Berlin, Wisconsin, and CSI Media of Beloit, Wisconsin. After retiring from circulation, Maimu moved to Wyoming, Michigan where she was an active member of the Moose Lodge of Wyoming, serving in many capacities, including Chaplin.
Maimu made a lasting impression on everyone she met and had a way of making every life she touched feel special. She was one of the most generous and selfless souls that had ever blessed this world.
Maimu was predeceased by her parents, Elizabet and Karl, and is survived by her daughter Kristina, son-in-law, Joseph, her son, Phillip, daughter-in-law, Jaime, and her two grandchildren, Jacob and Nikolas.
The ceremony to spread Maimu's ashes will be a private memorial with only immediate family members present. Service Details.
