Obituary

Lynwood Cudney, "Firewood", passed away on Wednesday, Jan 5, 2022, with family by his side. He was born to Leroy and Priscilla Cudney (Jagosz) on August 24, 1934. We are sad he is gone from our earthly presence, grateful he is no longer suffering, and joyful he is in the arms of Jesus. Family photos and memories in our hearts capture his family and friends and the impact he had on many. Lynn was a rock star during his later years as he navigated life with dementia. He enjoyed every moment, in the moment. He was the best setback player at the table just three weeks ago! The mind of a dementia patient is mysterious and incredible at the same time. Lynn was not afraid to ask vulnerable questions. "Where are we, what day is it, how old am I, how ya hitting em, do you know how to get home because I don't?" Sweet and sad all mixed into so many emotions. His favorite line the last few years was "you know, I'm pretty agile." We all laughed and said "yeah you are," as we assisted him in his weakened state. But dementia did not define Lynn's incredible life. He was a handsome, smart, quick-witted man who loved sports, cards, family and friends. Lynn and his wife, Sandra (Sandy) were avid bridge players and golfers and enjoyed many lasting friendships. In his younger years he could scoop a baseball at 3rd base and throw it home quicker than the blink of an eye. He was the scramble golf partner everyone wanted because of his precise short game. He loved to sing in the choir and never missed a church service. He loved the Lord. He started sweeping floors at Michigan Wheel at 17 and worked his way up through diligence and a strong work ethic. He retired as vice president of manufacturing at Michigan Wheel after 44 years of service. Lynn served our country during the Korean war while in the navy. He married his 18-year old bride when he was 20 and they lived a beautiful full life. He and Sandy celebrated 66 years of marriage having raised three kids and one son of the heart that the family adopted. Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Cudney, children, Steven Cudney (Linda), Gary Cudney (Mary), Kim Briggs, and "adopted" son, David Ray (Kathleen). Lynn and Sandy were blessed with seven grandchildren including Ryan Cudney (Annie), Nicholas Cudney (Sarah), Andrew Cudney (Julie), Steven Cudney (Christina), Kristina Bolthouse (Brent), Keaton Briggs (Anna), and Daniel Cudney. Lynn was a quiet, gentle soul who enjoyed watching his grandkids thrive and grow. "Bompa" enjoyed watching the grandchildren's sports and milestones, and was even there for the drama. We are so grateful he knew his grandkids and great grandkids and allowed us to take him visiting from one grandchild's house to the next. They will never forget how much he hated his hair being touched, how he had coffee wherever he went and how he always carried a shoehorn. Lynn was privileged to love on a few step grandchildren along the way and recently gained two step-grandchildren, Liam Wainaina and Ciru' Wainaina. Lynn and Sandy's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have been their pride and joy. Lynn will remain in the hearts of his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Nora, Kate, Luke, Levi, Graham, Ben, Jude, Claire, Finn, Addy, Nadia, Beckham, Briggs and Collins. Lynn had many nieces and nephews who he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with. Those that predeceased Lynn include his Mother, Priscilla Jagosz, Father, LeRoy Cudney, Step-Father, Joseph Jagosz, his siblings, Donna Quist (Jack), Milton Cudney, Jean Swanson (Bob), Beverly Darrow (Ray), Gordon Cudney, father-in-law, Kenneth Heim, Sr., mother-in-law, Stella Heim, sister-in-law, Jeanne Neuhaus (Mike), son-in-law, Kent Briggs, nephews, Star Quist and Kevin Cudney, and nieces, Kathy Zavala and Lynette Lavish. He is survived by his sister-in-law Pat Joustra (David), brother-in-law Kenneth Heim, Jr. (Betty), and sister-in-law Millie Cudney. Friends and family were so important to Lynn and he had many! Sadly, Lynn suffered heartache over many friends and family who passed before him. When Lynn's son-in-law, Kent Briggs, passed away, Lynn's heart was left broken as he loved Kent like a son. He is now rejoicing in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus, and has been made new! Due to the pandemic, a celebration of life will be postponed until summer when an outdoor service is possible. Please check back on the funeral website for an update. The family would like to thank St. Mary's Hospital and Faith Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion during Lynn's final hours. Those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to Faith Hospice.
