Obituary

Lynn Charles Walker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 85 years. Born on July 2, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was the son of Charles and Florence Walker.

A graduate of Honor High School, Lynn lived most of his life in Honor, Michigan. After graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Korea. On April 15, 1966, he married his loving wife of 58 years, Lonnie (Meyer) Walker. Together, they raised their family, and eventually welcomed grandchildren, to their place on Little Platte Lake in Lake Township.

Lynn was employed and retired as a United States Postal Worker in Traverse City. He stood in solidarity with his coworkers and served them for many years as a leader and president of the Traverse City Area Local. His tireless efforts on behalf of the Traverse City Area Local, and his eventual service to his brothers and sisters in the Michigan Postal Retirees, was a great example to his children in regard to his hard work and leadership.

Known to many as Coach Walker, Lynn was also an accomplished basketball coach for Benzie Central High School, where he coached both boys and girls' basketball over a span of 22 years and was inducted into the BCAM Hall of Honor. Many graduates of Benzie Central had the opportunity to play for Coach Walker over the years, including his own daughters. He counted as his friends many coaches from around the state of Michigan.

A true Northern boy, Lynn was a talented hunter, fisherman, and skilled outdoorsman. Known to his grandkids as "Poppy", he always enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of the outdoors and local area with the younger generations. After retirement from the postal service, he worked for the Michigan DNR Park Service and served on local boards and associations that utilized his knowledge and skills related to the outdoors.

Lynn was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Barlacome; his sister, Karen (Walker) McMichael; and his father, Charles Walker. He is survived by his wife, Lonnie (Meyer) Walker; his daughters, Dionne Klingensmith, Tiffany (Jim) Idziak, Colleen (Billie) Drake, Kerry (Eric) Mello; 10 Grandchildren, and 3 Great-grandchildren. Lynn loved his family and considered them his greatest legacy. At his request, a private memorial service will be held for immediate family. His remains will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery, in Traverse City.
